		<description>There really should be a part of the Hall of Fame for men who get in partly on the basis of playing and managerial prowess. It would be a great home for guys like Boudreau, Gil Hodges, Joe Torre, Bobby Valentine, and Dusty Baker.</description>

He won a batting title and had that great season in 1948 in which he single handedly beat Boston in a one game playoff to put the Indians in the series.
At the time of his election, there were only a handful of shortstops in the hall.</description>
